Class Schedule 2012

2012 Winter Term starts Tuesday Sept 17 / Thursday Sept 19 (10 weeks)
2012 Spring Term starts Tuesday April 17 / Thursday April 19 (7 weeks)

Group classes in Tullow run from September to May at Teach Bhride, Tullow, Co. Carlow.
Course fees: € 80 for 10 week term, or € 15 per class drop-in.

Tuesdays,
8:00-9:15 p.m.

Gentle Hatha Yoga
Relaxation, breathing, flowing sequences and postures (asana). Perfect for those new to yoga and those wishing for a good stretch and a guided relaxation.

Thursdays, 8:10-9:15 p.m.

Hatha Yoga in Shadow Style
This class focuses on the breath to draw your attention inwards, and provides a more physically challenging yoga. Thorough warm-up, introduction to the first prelude form, attention to the breath, and steady postures. Open to all; ideal for those in reasonable physical condition who wish to improve joint mobility and increase strength.

I don't teach pregnancy yoga separately, but you are welcome to join a general class. Please contact me ahead of time.

A typical hatha yoga class will include a short opening chant (the sacred sound "Om"); a good warm-up for the spine, legs and arms; sun salutations (surya namaskar); steady poses (asana); breathing exercises (pranayama); and a closing deep relaxation (savasana).

The Thursday yoga class includes lots of attention to moving the joints and strengthening the legs. This class is influenced by my shadow yoga practice. Visit www.shadowyoga.com for further information and a clip of Emma Balnaves' masterful balakrama, the first prelude form.

If you are interested in shadow yoga please visit Paula McGrath's website for courses in Dublin and Islignton Yoga for courses in London with Karen Watson.

Some past courses are archived here for your information.

Ballin Temple Retreats

We can run a retreat for groups seeking to deepen their sense of purpose in business and in life.

Please see astraea.net for details of other coaching.

Our yoga retreats are tailored to a group's needs, according to the following guidelines:

  • You (individual or group) can book the weekend, week, or longer, for your retreat.

  • We have accommodation for up to 12 people and could help to arrange accommodation for a larger group in the surrounding area.

  • Our yoga facilities include a room that fits 3 comfortably, for private/small groups; and a large yurt-like tent that is suitable for the warmer season (May-August). This facility can accommodate 12 for yoga practice.

  • We offer fresh, seasonal organic produce from our own garden, and will seek to fill any nutritional profile you request (vegetarian is a popular request).

  • The Ballin Temple estate offers great natural beauty, and we would encourage you to include meditation walks in your program (these can be guided).

Other suggestions

  • A week-long retreat could be set up as a Chakra Yoga week, working through the 7 chakras in 6 to 8 days. Philosophy and practical application is covered.

  • Free time can be used in any way you like. See our home page for more on the activities available at Ballin Temple. Any specific activity should be booked in advance.

  • Pam teaches classical Hatha yoga. Other schools of yoga may be accommodated depending on the availability of guest teachers. Options would include Astanga, Iyengar and Shadow yoga.
