Aromatherapy

to Shop Main Page.
Our range of essential oils is selected to bring the benefits of this
natural therapy in maintaining health and humour to all of us. They offer
a simple enhancement to benefit your whole family and home or work.
The simple selection should satisfy most home's needs. We have found
that use of a few aromas in the home on a regular basis helps maintain
health and happiness and may reduce the use of conventional drugs. Increased
resilience maintains the body's protective and self-healing capacities.
Aromatherapy is not a cure-all but in the context of your lifestyle will
help your body's efficient functioning. Essential oils may be used on
a regular basis to maintain wellbeing or as a remedy for ailments. Care
should be taken at all times, especially with babies and infants. Listen
to your own body - if something works continue, if it aggravates then
reduce its use.
Essential oils are generally used in three ways:
Essential oils are concentrated. For example it takes about 6 tonnes
of rose petals to make one litre of essential oil! Usage is therefore
one to a few drops, no more. Often oils are diluted in water (vaporisation)
or a carrier oil (massage and, for some, bath to moisturise skin). Different
carrier oils may be used for different purposes, but they should always
be pure vegetable oils (not baby oil etc) and it is preferable to use
a high quality oil. We can supply organic sunflower oil if desired.
Choose the method to suit the requirements and mood. Remember direct
application of concentrated oils may have powerful effects.
The action of aroma oil tends to affect a selection of the following
general areas:
Each oil may influence all areas, but its action will be pronounced in
one or a few. Also, individual oils will tend to effect a particular aspect
within an area, compared to another oil. For example, myrrh has a powerful
antiseptic property making it effective in treatment of skin disorders
like athlete's foot, gangrene, viral infections, thrush etc, while niaouli,
also beneficial to skin complexion, may be used to treat wounds and burns.
Oils are highly complex, containing many fine chemicals, of which only
a fraction may have been identified, all working together. They may be
used in conjunction with one another and slightly differently for different
people. While they are concentrated and should be treated with respect,
their effect on the body is generally in keeping with the natural functioning
of the body and are therefore better tolerated by human physiology than
synthetic chemicals.
